William Kenneth Parker

Meadowview, Virginia


William Kenneth Parker, 79, of Meadowview, Virginia, passed peacefully surrounded by family on April 6th, 2024.


Ken was born to the late Clyde and Susie Parker on January 9th, 1945, in the Extract Community of Damascus, VA.


Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Eva Louise Wohlford “Weeze” Parker, and 2 daughters, Randi Parker Johnson (Mike) of Virginia Beach, and Martha Parker Finley (Michael) of Damascus. Kenny is survived by five grandchildren; Isabel, Gabriel, Kathryn, Jude and Clayton, and three bonus grandchildren; Kiana, Kaiden, and Connor. He is survived by brother Ted Parker, and preceded in death by siblings Jim, Virginia, Jr., and Bob. Survived also by numerous nieces and nephews, especially niece Cyndi Fisher of Richmond, TX.


            Kenny was a graduate of Damascus High School, known fondly as the Old Rock School. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from King College. He loved his family, his church, fishing, ballgames, a good project to fiddle with, and connecting with community.


            Mr. Parker was a devoted math and computer technology educator for over 4 decades, beginning his career in Leesburg, VA.  He proudly served the majority of his career in Washington County Public Schools. Through the years, Ken also taught adult night classes, as well as GED classes. In 1986, he was named the first Washington County Virginia Teacher of the Year.


            Ken spent many volunteer hours with the Meadowview Ruritan Club, Meadowview First Civic group, and decades ushering at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.


            A special thank you to Taylor Lee and Krissy Cline, caregivers from Gentiva Hospice, and to Dr. Schrenker and staff of Integrated Health Concepts.


            A celebration of Mr. Parkers life will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Saturday May 4th, 2024 at 2pm, with reception to follow.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to honor Kenny’s legacy of kindness and service can be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 124 East Main St., Abingdon, VA, 24210, or the Animal Defense League, P.O. Box 2099, Abingdon, VA, 24212.
