William “Bill” Ralph Jones, 84, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Saltville, Va., to the late Rev. James Ralph Jones and Helen Johnson Jones. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sister, Stella Jean Maloyed and brother, Henry Warren Jones.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from AMSCO Products after 28 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, and puzzles among many other hobbies.
He was a dedicated Christian always showing his faith and wanting to follow God’s direction. Bill helped to establish Rural Retreat Baptist Church and was active for many years as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and mission worker. He was currently a member of Damascus Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Martha Smith Jones; daughter, Angela Wolford (Arlis); grandchildren, Amanda Hayes Muise (Chris), Nathaniel Hayes (Ashley), Aubree Wolford (Patrick Horn) and William “Alex” Wolford; five great grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Stuart and Carol Moser (Gene); brother, Paul Jones (Betty) and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Clinton Sutherland for his care over the years.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m., to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2021, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel with interment to follow at Mount Rose Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
In accordance with COVID-19 restrictions, all those attending services are asked to wear face coverings and follow social distancing guidelines.
