William Arthur “Bill” Campbell, 88, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Bill was born March 21, 1936, in Bristol, Virginia to the late William Lowry Campbell and Fannie Belle Johnson Campbell. Bill graduated from East Tennessee State University with degrees in French and Spanish. Afterward, he earned his education endorsement and spent 42 years teaching elementary school. Bill lived and breathed opera, and after retirement, Bill’s desire to keep the genre alive led him to another career in which he ran an opera radio show on WEHC 90.7.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Campbell.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Kiser and husband James; niece, Kathy Kiser; three nephews, Gary Kiser, Clay Odem, and Mark Odem. Bill is also survived by many extended family members.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Knollkreg Memorial Park at 1:00 P.M. with the Reverend Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to arrive at the cemetery by 12:45 P.M.
