In Loving Memory of Wendy Smith Long
September 10, 1955 – May 20, 2025
Wendy Smith Long peacefully entered into the presence of her Heavenly Father on May 20, 2025, following a lengthy illness. She was born on September 10, 1955, in Bristow, Virginia, to the late Kelly and Catherine Smith.
A graduate of Osbourn High School in Manassas, Virginia, Wendy later relocated to Southwest Virginia, where she found her true home among the mountains she came to love.
Wendy devoted her professional life to the culinary arts, working as a skilled cook in several respected establishments, including the Martha Washington Inn and Allison’s Restaurant in Abingdon. Beyond her work in the kitchen, Wendy had a deep passion for nurturing others, especially children. She served faithfully for many years as a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church, where her kindness and devotion touched many lives. Her faith was a guiding force in her life—she cherished the Bible and never missed a daily devotional.
Her grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she was their greatest supporter, always reminding them of her boundless love. Wendy also enjoyed crafting, reading, and listening to music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her fiancé, James Sanders; her sister, Deloris Ramos; and her brothers, Timmy Smith and Kelly Smith.
Wendy is lovingly remembered by her sister, Rebecca Fesperman, and husband Brian; her daughters, Melissa Myles and husband Tyrone, and Amber Harris and husband Edward; her cherished grandchildren, Jordan McDowell, Kira Myles, Gracie Myles, Clint Harris and his fiancée Ashlyn Ketron, and Emily Harris. She will also be fondly missed by her dear friends Selena Hale and Ruthie Dawson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Abingdon Health and Rehab for their dedicated care during Wendy’s final days.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday May 23, 2025, at Abingdon United Methodist Church with a memorial service by Rev. Glenn Patterson at 7:00 P.M.

Romans 8:38-39 I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love – not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future, and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!
