Wanda Lee Hayes, 76, of Konnarock, VA, went to be with the lord on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter Tina and Curtis Mink.
Born on October 20, 1948, Wanda was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness, faith, and love touched the lives of all who knew her. She had a deep passion for traveling and discovering new places and found joy in the beauty of flowers gardening and singing. Wanda was a dedicated caregiver, always putting others before herself, and was a proud and active member of Azen Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years. Her church family held a special place in her heart.
Above all, Wanda cherished time spent with her family. Her gentle spirit, warm heart, and unwavering faith will be remembered by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arvey and Katrina Pennington; one brother, Jimmy Pennington; and her beloved grandson, Ben Mink.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 59 years, Gary Ben Hayes; three loving daughters, Tina Mink (Curtis) of Abingdon, VA, Amy Callahan (Craig) of Clearwater, FL, and Selina Rhoten (Alex) of Damascus, VA; one brother, Nelson Hart (Sheilah); three grandchildren, Chris Blevins (Justine) of Konnarock, VA, Emily Blevins of Bristol, VA, and Tanner Phillips (Emily) of Chilhowie, VA; and five great-grandchildren: Caden and Carley Blevins, Harper Reisler, and Benjamin and Oliver Phillips. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her dear friends, Angela Trivett, and Chris and Kristy Hickman.
Wanda's legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Caris Healthcare for their support during this difficult time. Also, Dr. Handy for his dedication and support to the family.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Azen Missionary Baptist Church, with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Jim Lundy and Pastor Robert Blevins officiating.
