Abingdon Virginia Mr. Wallace Edward Smith, Jr. went home, peacefully, on the evening of October 13, 2022, with his family by his side. He loved the Lord, his family, his church, his farm, and to each he gave his all. Wallace was born April 27, 1949, in Abingdon, Virginia to the late Wallace E. Smith, Sr. and Lila Aven Smith. Wallace served his country in the US Army Reserves. He served Washington County as a deputy and went on to work for Graybar Electric and Telecommunications in sales for 31 years. He served as a Deacon for Mountain View Baptist Church and participated in numerous mission trips. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ronald Yeatts.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Sue (Yeatts) Smith; his daughter, Renee Smith Richmond and son-in-law, Jim Richmond; his very precious granddaughter, Ainsley Richmond; his brother, Tim Smith (Danny Trenor); his brother-in-law, John (Marie) Yeatts; sister-in-law JoAnn Yeatts; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 17, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sherrell Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Knollkreg Memorial Park where military honors will be rendered by the United States Army.
