Troy Compton, age 85, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
He was born September 5, 1933, in Buchanan County, Va., to the late Ben and Lydia Compton. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Sue “Susie” Robb.
Troy lived most of his life in the Grundy area before moving to Abingdon in 2006. He was employed with Jewel Smokeless Coal Company for 25 years and was a former member and deacon at Little Prater Church of Christ. After moving to Abingdon he became a member of Macedonia Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Meldena Stacy Compton; one son, Troy “Buddy” Compton of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Tony Stiltner and wife, Stephanie, J.R. Stiltner and wife, Regan, Suzanne Stiltner and husband, Kyle and Staci Perkins and husband, Dan; five great grandchildren, Haley Stiltner, Katie Stiltner, Reid Stiltner, Kelsey Stiltner and Bailey Hamer; three sisters, Pat Sayers and husband, David of Vansant, Va., Irene Metz and husband, Fred of Gaston, SC, Adelaide Looney and husband, Jerry of Vansant, Va.; one brother, Tommy Compton and wife, Helen of Grundy, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 3, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Macedonia Church of Christ, 25350 Watauga Rd., Abingdon, Va. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at the church with Minister Ron Musick officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m., Friday at Greenhills Memory Gardens, 11800 Governor George C Peery Hwy., Cedar Bluff, Va., 24609.
Pallbearers will be Tony Stiltner, J.R. Stiltner, Kyle Stiltner, Reid Stiltner, Randy Stiltner, Dan Perkins, Justin Miller and Chuck Stacy. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Looney, his bowling buddies, the Hardees breakfast gang, and the men of Macedonia Church of Christ.
