Tom Scott, loving husband, son, brother and uncle passed away peacefully April 30, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Born in Abingdon on June 6, 1964, to George and Lena Scott, he was a lifelong resident of Abingdon / Washington Co.
Known for his big smile, generous spirit, quick wit and endless love - he will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
Tom showed a strength of character and determination at an early age when in 1974, at just 14 years old, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout - a testament to his dedication, leadership and love of the outdoors that continued throughout his life.
He found great peace and happiness in nature and was happiest anywhere in the mountains and days spent at the beach. He treasured scenic drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway - always ready to climb Mt. Mitchell, White Top or Mt. Rogers - or some random trail - or a sunrise walk on the beach; the natural beauty of the outdoors refreshed his spirit and brought a smile to his face. A true sports enthusiast, Tom had a lifelong passion for the Cincinnati Reds and the Minnesota Vikings, as well as an avid college football and golf fan. He loved attending games and visiting new ballparks. He was loyal to his favorite teams and always optimistic about the upcoming season.
Above all, Tom cherished his wife Sally, creating wonderful memories while attending concerts, traveling or just doing yard work together. They shared a lifetime of laughter, adventure and loving devotion.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, George Scott.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Stringer-Scott; loving mother, Lena Scott; devoted sister, Elizabeth Rolen (Wade) of Abingdon, VA. Sisters-in-law, Virginia Stringer Rich of Abingdon, VA; Amy Stringer Thacker (John) of Bristol, VA; Nieces: Kelsee Rolen Tignor (Matt) of Knoxville, Tn.; Pam Atwell of Abingdon, VA.; Kayla Thacker of Bristol, VA.; Nephews: Geoff Atwell (Lisa) of Bokeelia, FL; Paul Rich of Bristol, VA.; Conrad Thacker (Kendra) or Bristol, VA. and many cherished friends.
His earthly journey has ended, his spirit - as steadfast as the mountain and free as the sea - will remain with us always.
Sincere thanks to Dr. Shen and Dr. Savage; and the Wake Forest Atrium Health team of doctors and nurses who provided exceptional care and compassion to Tom.
A celebration of Life will be announced at a later time.
