Thomas Rudolph Johnson

Thomas Rudolph Johnson, age 90, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with his Lord and savior on November 19, 2018, after struggling with Dementia and Alzheimer.

Thomas Rudolph Johnson, better known to most as, “TR”, was born on August 15,1928 in Castlewood Va. to the late parents of Lotus and Mary Dell Fleenor Johnson. Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Elisabeth T. I. Johnson, and his three sisters; Mary Elizabeth Johnson Richards, Patsy Anne Johnson and Peggy Johnson Selfe.

After graduating Temple High in Castlewood Va., T.R. fought for our great country in the Korean War, afterward he resided in Newport News where he worked as a driver for Gulf Oil, a painter for the Newport News Shipyard and also worked for the Newport News Fire Dept. He retired from the C&O Railroad of 30 plus years as an Engineer. He settled in Abingdon, Virginia to be closer to his relatives while volunteering as an EMT and driver for the Valley Rescue Squad and Washington County Life Saving Crew.

T.R. was a member of Greendale Methodist Baptist Church, he loved the Lord, his church and his family, he was a man of many traits and knowledge, was kind to people and animals, tame or wild, when he had time, he spent it on volunteering, gardening, hunting and fishing but most of all just socializing with friends.

T.R. leaves behind his three sons: Eric Von Johnson of South Carolina, Bernhard Michael Johnson and wife Sandra of Hampton Va., Roberd Marcus Johnson and wife Nancy of Pennington Gap Va.; his daughter Bernnadette Johnson Garrett and husband John of Abingdon Va., grandsons: Michael Thomas Johnson and Jacky Randall Boyd; granddaughter Emily Johnson and grand stepdaughter Tracy Nicole Garrett & grand step children Jalina & Robert Stapleton. A very special family member, one whom Mr. Johnson considered as another daughter, Margo Frye of Damascus Va. Nephews: Billy Richards of Winchester KY. and Dan Richards of Durham N.C. along with several cousins.

The Johnson’s family would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the caregivers that took part in giving him the best possible care at home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Frost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, November 24, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with interment to follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va.

Pallbearers will be Billy Richards, Dan Richards, Randall Boyd, John Garrett, Eric Johnson, Bernhard Johnson, Roberd Johnson and Michael Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, he wished donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, National Processing Center, Post Office Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090.
