Terry (Termite) Michael Newsome

Abingdon, VA. Terry (Termite) Michael Newsome, age 60, passed away August 31, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Newsome was born in Buchanan County September 3, 1958 to Homer and the late Nelma Clevinger Newsome of Grundy, VA. He was a member of Macedonia Church of Christ in Abingdon, VA. Terry grew up in the coalfields of Southwest Virginia where he worked many years. In 1991, Terry and his family moved to Abingdon, VA, where he started working as a mechanic at Abingdon Auto Clinic with his father-in-law, Ray Shortridge. They both kept vehicles in service for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Scherona Shortridge Newsome of 40 years. Two sons, Jason Michael Newsome and Jordan Lee Newsome both of Abingdon, VA.; one sister, Connie (Kenny) Prater; two brothers, Ted (Pam) Newsome, Larry “Pooch” (Mary Ann) Newsome all of Grundy, VA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 PM until 8 PM Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Macedonia Church of Christ. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Macedonia Church of Christ with Minister Ron Musick officiating. A committal service will follow at Mountain View United Methodist Church Cemetery.
