After a brief battle against an aggressive cancer, Sarah Elizabeth Gentry Wright of Glade Spring, VA went home to be with her Heavenly Father on January 20, 2022. Sarah brought light and laughter to everyone she met. She taught elementary and middle school for Washington County Schools for over thirty years. She loved to garden, to be outside, and to travel. Sarah worked as a volunteer for many church and community organizations. However, her greatest joy and accomplishment was being a grandmother to her four grandchildren.
Sarah is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald Lee (Don) Wright, Sr of Glade Spring. Her children, Beth Wright Litz (Steve) of Ooltewah, TN and Lee Wright (Cindy) of Glade Spring. Her precious grandchildren, Andrew and Daniel Litz and Sandy and Wyatt Wright. Her two brothers, John D. Gentry (Ann) of Bristol, VA and Larry D. Gentry of Morristown, TN. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Sarah is preceded in death by her mother, Amelia Parker Gentry Collins, her father, Roy David Gentry and stepfather Lester Collins.
The family will host a celebration of life on Saturday, April 23, 2022 in Taylor’s Valley, Virginia. At this time a memorial service and scattering of ashes will take place at the Jackson-Lewis Cemetery. Per her wishes, there will be a great party to follow at the Taylor’s Valley Community Center.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the following in Sarah’s name: American Cancer Society, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospital, Salvation Army, or Jackson-Lewis Cemetery.
