Sandra “Sandy” or “Sae” K. Fields, 78, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9 following a courageous battle with ALS.

Born in Wolford, Virginia, Sandy was the daughter of the late Bill and Polly Kennedy. She was a woman of deep faith, and her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace in God’s presence.

Sandy was the beloved wife of Larry Frank Fields, with whom she shared 58 devoted years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered around faith, love, and service to others.

She was the proud mother of Laddy Fields (Amy) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and adored grandmother to Ellie and Henry Fields.

Sandy is also survived by her brother, Bill Kennedy (Norma) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and special nephews Jimmy Blankenship, Ricky Blankenship, and Stephen Kennedy and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jim Blankenship; and her infant son, Larry Andrew Fields.

Sandy loved decorating her home, especially for the fall and Christmas, bringing warmth and charm to the seasons. She delighted in solving word games, coloring, and watching game shows. Her joyful spirit and love for life’s simple pleasures will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to her closest friends, Debbie Gaminde and Carolyn Dillow, for their faithful friendship, and to the teams at Caris Hospice and Commonwealth Assisted Living for their exceptional care.

Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11 with funeral services held at 11:00 a.m. at Painter Creek Church of Christ in Abingdon, Virginia. Burial will follow at Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gary E Shealy Memorial ALS Clinic. https://securelb.imodules.com/s/974/giving/interior.aspx?sid=974&gid=1&pgid=3715&cid=5331&bledit=1&dids=411
