Samuel C. Hill

Samuel C. Hill, age 71, entered into Heavenly rest to the arms of his Lord March 7, 2024 at his home surrounded  by love ones.


Sam was born April 12, 1952 in Meadowview, VA, a son of the late Thomas Hill and Vida Hill Minnick. He was of the Baptist faith.  Sam enjoyed the lake life, ocean, his 4-legged fur baby, Mokie, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.  Of all things that brought him enjoyment was spending time with his family & friends.  


In addition to his parents, Sam was also preceded in death by  one son, Chase, at childbirth, his father-in-law & mother-in-law, James Pruitt, Sr. & Mildred Pruitt.


Survivors include his loving spouse of 34 years, Mitzi Pruitt Hill of the home; brother David Hill, Sr, (Judy); sister-in-law Pamela Pruitt Bartley (Randall) & brother-in-law James Pruitt,  Jr. (Cathy); nieces Rebecca Hackworth, Jayme Pruitt, Pamela Wampler & Alice Hill; nephews David Hill, Jr., Greg Hill, & Austin Bartley.


Sam called Meadowview, VA home all of his life except for the last year living in Bristol, VA. He was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School.


Sam was an Air Force Vietnam Veteran, rank of Sgt., 405th Supply Squadron. He attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, for training to be Missile Mgt. Specialist, exclusively in Titian & Minuteman missiles.  His tour of duty included the Philippines & DaNang, Vietnam.  He was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California when honorably discharged.


Sam worked as a Construction Contractor with 30+ years with Fluor Corp. at Eastman Chemical in Kingsport, TN and a number of years at several other projects taking him to many states & towns.


Special friends, like brothers, that were an important part of Sam’s life: Alan Moore (Slim), Gary McCray (Mod), Rob Francisco, Danny Ryan (Mayor), Allen McVey (Slick), Joe Puckett (Joe Rob), Bill Neese, Danny Broyles, Bill Campbell, Randy Hardin (Redbone), Mike Wagner (Dude), Gary Thompson, Frank Childress, Ric Burnette, Brian Caraway, Randy Waddell, Johnny Steadman & so many more. Sam always ended the conversation with “love you brother” and he meant it.


The family will receive friends at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, VA, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. A funeral service will follow the visitation in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Dan Birchfield and Gary McCray officiating. Family and friends will follow in procession Temple Hill Cemetery, Castlewood VA. with Honor Guard.


Pallbearers making the last part of this journey with Sam are: Alan Moore, Danny Ryan, Joe Puckett, Davy Hill, John Ryan & Danny Broyles.  Honorary pallbearers are: Allen McVey, Rob Francisco, Gary McCray, Bill Neese, Gary Thompson, Mike Wagner, Randy Waddell, Johnny Steadman & his classmates of Patrick Henry High School.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tunnel-to-Towers (T2T.org), St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) , or to an animal shelter of one’s choice.
