Rosie Helen Ward, age 78, of Abingdon, Va., passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2022, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Glade Spring, Va., on June 29, 1943, to the late Marvin Monroe Vannoy and Martha Boone Vannoy. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lloyd Alven “Avie” Ward; one sister and two brothers.
Rosie was retired as a seamstress from Edmont-Wilson, Coshocton, Ohio. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed cross-stitching and macramé, loved gardening, line dancing and garage sales. Rosie was a wonderful cook and desserts were her specialty. She also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and traveling with her husband.
Survivors include her two children, Lynn Gilbert and husband David Gilbert of Tazewell, Va., and David Ward and wife Tammy Ward of Elkview, WV; four grandchildren, Michelle Ward Bare and husband Joseph Bare, Sharon Navarre, Brian Navarre and wife Ashley Navarre and Rachel Ward and wife Presley Ward ; five great grandsons; one step great granddaughter; three sisters, Joy Kirker, Hazel Canfield and Maggie Campbell and husband Dennis; one brother, Willie Vannoy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2022, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A service will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Rev. Dr. David Gilbert officiating. At the request of Mrs. Ward cremation will follow services.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Ward, Brian Navarre, Tim Ward, Zack Ward and Jake Westfall.
