Abingdon, VA.
Ronnie Lynn Cochran, of Abingdon, VA., passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2021 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. He contracted COVID-19 a few weeks prior which eventually caused pneumonia and led to his death.
Ronnie was born on July 29, 1949 in Clinchco, VA. He attended Ervington High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, Ronnie worked in the heavy equipment industry, coal mines, and spent most of his career prior to retirement, as a professional driver operating 18-wheel gas tankers for Quesenberry Oil in Abingdon, VA.
An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Ronnie spent his most enjoyable days on Holston Lake with anyone that liked to fish, but most often with his longtime friend and brother-in-law, Luther Rose. He also tremendously enjoyed spending time with his 7 grandchildren playing with them and teaching them about fishing and the outdoors.
Ronnie was always a wonderful example to his family of faith in Christ, pillar of the family, and breadwinner. Mentioned as one of his proudest days was the day his son graduated recruit training and became a United States Marine, as well as watching his granddaughters Allision and Mackenzie grow up. He will be missed by many but looked forward to the grand reunion he is having with those who have gone on before him.
Ronnie was married for over three decades to his wife, Dorothy Anderson, whom preceded him in death. They were members of Holston Valley Baptist Church, and Ronnie had been saved by the grace of God over 30 years prior to his death.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon and Martha Cochran, as well as his sister, Mrs. Carolyn Castle.
He is survived by his daughter, Ms. Veronica Hurst, his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Onsby and Jessi Rose, his nieces and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. JT and Jenny Turner, and Mr. and Mrs. Trevor and Nicki Carter, as well as his nephew, Mr. Shawn Castle. Additionally, he is survived by his seven grandchildren, Allision Cochran, Mackenzie Cochran, Aidan Rose, Timothy Rose, Caleb Okumura, Elijah Rose, and Colin Rose.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Frost Funeral Home. A service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Frost Funeral Home followed by a short graveside service at 3:00 P.M. at the Anderson Family Cemetery, Middle of the World, Dante, VA with Rev. Danny Sluss and Rev. Paul Ketron officiating.
Ronnie will be laid to rest beside his wife, overlooking the mountains where he grew up and spent many years hunting, fishing, and playing bluegrass music.
In accordance with COVID-19 restrictions, all those attending services are asked to wear face coverings and follow social distancing guidelines.
