Ronald Arton "Ronnie" Walls




Abingdon, Virginia


Ronald “Ronnie” Arton Walls, 77, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.  


Ronnie was born October 15, 1946, in Sophie, West Virginia to the late Arthur and Virginia Hurley Walls.   After moving to Virginia, Ronnie was a member of the first graduating class of the new Holston High School.   After high school, he began what would become a lifelong journey in education.  He was a 1969 graduate of ETSU and received his Master’s from Radford University.   Ronnie served the students and citizens of Washington County for 38 years as a teacher, principal, and central office administrator. 

 

After retirement, Ronnie focused on being a jack-of-all trades and his passion for Volkswagens.   Some of his best times were spent antique shopping and going to concerts with his wife, Jane and hunting and fishing with his grandson, Tyler, who was his pride and joy. 


Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jane Walls of Abingdon; daughter, April Dawn Case and husband Jason of Knoxville, Tennessee; his grandson, whom he adored, Tyler Case of Knoxville, Tennessee; two half-sisters, Jackie Wright and Nancy Stafford both of Chester, Virginia; stepmother, Shirley Walls.   Ronnie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.


The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M at Frost Funeral Home.  A funeral service will follow at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel with Pastor John Surber officiating.   Burial will be private in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Haven of Rest Rescue Mission in Bristol, Tennessee.
