Abingdon, Va.

Robert (Robb) Ratcliff, Jr., 42, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 30, 2021, surrounded by family.

He was the youngest of four children of Robert (Bobby) Ratcliff, Sr. and Lynda Campbell Ratcliff. Robb was a graduate of Abingdon High School and attended Emory & Henry College where he was a member of the football team. Robb spent all of his life serving his community and was best known for being ‘Coach Rat’ from Abingdon High School. He had the knowledge, passion, and love for football like no other. He served as the Offensive Lineman coach at Abingdon since 2012. He made such an impact in all of the lives that crossed his path, but most especially the staff, students, and players during his time at Abingdon High School. Coach Rat has left his mark on this world and on his family, friends, players both past and present, his community, and school. He was an avid animal lover, the Chicago Bears number one fan, and had a sense of humor that could not be matched. Robb was very close to his immediate family and closest friends. He shared a special relationship with so many and has touched everyone in way or another. Coach Rat was the best at everything he did, he is irreplaceable.

Robb was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Cecil and Elsie Ratcliff; and maternal grandparents, James and Helen Campbell.

Robb is survived by his parents, Bobby and Lynda Ratcliff of Abingdon, Va.; siblings: brother, James (Carol) Sandoe of Bristol, Tenn.; sisters, Tippy (Tim) Doane and Misty (Kyle) Norris both of Abingdon, Va.; niece, Chelsey Norris of Abingdon, Va.; nephews, Hunter Norris, Aaron Doane, Ethan Doane all of Abingdon, Va. and Matthew (Jana) Sandoe of Bluff City, Tenn.; great nieces and nephew, Madelynn, John Carter, Elizabeth and Carly. Robb is also survived by a host of many special friends. Robb’s memory will carry on in all those that he so greatly impacted over his years on the Earth. He will be deeply missed by all.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Brock and Hilary Hawkins; Coaching Staff; Jeff Johnson, Garrett Amburgey, Chase Nunley, Brent Tipton, Noah Marvin, Ryan Nutter, Jordan Lambert, James Self, Rocky Vinson, and Brad Bussey; T.J. and Heather Metcalf, Major Cook, Special Nurses Josie Canada, Macie Frazier, Beth Roberts, Donna Rose, Madisyn Marcum, and Bethany Marcum along with all of the staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center for their endless care and support.
