Mr. Raymond A. Thompson, 82, of Abingdon, Va. passed away on Monday February 5, 2018, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born on September 24, 1935, in Washington County, Va., to the late L. Frank Thompson and Delaphine Francisco Thompson of the North Fork of the Holston River.
Raymond was an alumnus of Emory & Henry College and retired from Appalachian Electric Power after 40 years of service as a supervisor in the Results Department. He was also a 40-plus year member of the Abingdon Lions Club.
Raymond loved working with electronics and was able to repair just about anything. He loved photography and cutting up with the grandkids. He instilled hard work in his family through his work at Carbo Power Plant and farming on the North Fork up until his last few years.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joanne Thompson; two children, Kevin A. Thompson and wife, Jennifer P. Thompson of Abingdon, Va., and Kimberly Tucker of Abingdon, Va.; five grandchildren, Lexi Thompson, Kenzi Thompson, Katie Tucker, Courtney Tucker, and Jarod Tucker; one special aunt, Beulah Stringer of Abingdon, Va.; one niece, Tammy Sexton; several cousins; brother-in-law, Jerry Sexton and wife, Gail of Bristol, Va.; sister-in-law, Paula Sexton and her son, Cliff and his wife, Pat; and special friends, Joe Andis and Joy Henderson.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Frost Funeral Home. A private committal service will be held in Knollkreg Memorial Park.
