Phyllis Louise Deadmore


Abingdon, Virginia


Phyllis Louise Deadmore, 90, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, at Johnston Memorial Hospital.


Phyllis was born November 14, 1932, in Fallen Timber, PA to the late Charles and Elda Dixon. She moved to Abingdon 32 years ago with her husband John. She was an active and devout member of Abingdon United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of Lake Perry Wesley Church Circle, and spent many years working with Relay for Life as a cancer survivor. Phyllis spent decades caring for children from her time living in New Jersey, Baltimore, MD and Abingdon, VA. She also cared for a few local Abingdon elderly residents.


In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband John J. Deadmore, Jr.; 5 sisters and 3 brothers.


Left to cherish her memory are three children, Gloria Deadmore (Michael) Vento, James Alan (Debbie) Deadmore, Elizabeth Jean “Beth” (Gary) Mix; 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. Phyllis is also survived by one brother, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.


The family will receive friends Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, VA. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11:00am at Abingdon United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul Seay and Reverend Glenn Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park.


Ryan Mix, James Deadmore, Collin Vento, Michael Vento, Gary Mix, David Sipp, Jeff Johnson and Michael Spiegler will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abingdon United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
