Updated: Nov 12, 2023

Peggy Sue Jones, beloved mother and wife, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

She was born on January 29, 1951 to the late Stephen Glen “Pop” Richardson of Meadowview, VA and Maggie Stewart of Abingdon, VA. Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving son, Matthew Jones.

Peggy’s passing leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and dedication. Peggy’s life was centered around her family and her career. She worked alongside her husband, Hubert “Butch” Jones, for many years in their successful cleaning business. Their partnership not only created a thriving business but also served as an example of the power of love and collaboration. One of Peggy’s proudest accomplishments was the deep and enduring love she shared with Butch. They were soulmates who stood by each other’s side for an incredible 57 years.

Peggy’s life was a testament to love, resilience, dedication and faith. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her loving husband Butch; her son, Dave Jones; and her daughter, Delana Jones; two special granddaughters, Allison Patrick and Brandon Armbrister of Bristol, VA; Alexis Patrick and Matthew Gill, of Abingdon, VA; one special niece, who she loved like a daughter, Angel Willis (Joey) of Abingdon, VA. Two special grandsons, Josh and Amber Jones of Bristol, TN and Jacob and Katie Jones of Bristol, Tennessee; six great grandchildren and one very special great granddaughter, Navie Mae Armbrister; one brother, Roby and Sue Steward of Abingdon, VA. Peggy loved all of her brothers, sisters in laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She loved her children with all her heart. She was the best mom. Peggy’s family would like to say a special thank you to Elite Hospice and especially to Teresa and Misty for the amazing care they gave to Peggy.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. at Abingdon United Methodist Church until the service at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Glenn Patterson officiating. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Minister Roger Hearl officiating.
