Pearl Reed Cumbow Cooke

Mrs. Pearl Reed Cumbow Cooke, age 95, passed away on February 1, 2019 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Abingdon, Virginia. Mrs. Pearl Reed was born on September 20, 1923 the daughter of the late A. L. Cumbow and Pearl Reed Cumbow. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, James E. Cooke, Jr. and her two loving sons, James E. Cooke, III and Robert Morris Cooke. She was also preceded in death by a brother A. L. Cumbow, Jr.

Mrs. Pearl Reed as she was known was an active member of the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon, Virginia and during her life she was an accomplished Seamstress and loved to play Bridge. She loved to ride horses with her family and was always a special and caring mother. She was the niece of the late Mabel Cumbow Ruskin who was founder of Cumbow China House.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Elizabeth Reed Cooke of New York, City; a very special nephew and wife, Don & Sandy Cumbow of Abingdon, Virginia; special nieces, Anne Cumbow Overbay of Kingsport, TN and Kathryn Holzapfel of Cary, NC.

Graveside services for Mrs. Pearl Reed Cumbow Cooke will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Knollkreg Memorial Park with the Rev. B. Ronald Gilmer officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, February 4th, 2019 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Frost Funeral Home.
