Pauline Arnold Grimes, age 97, of Glade Spring, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 2, 2018, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Washington County, Va., where she lived until she married her sweetheart, George and moved to Portsmouth, Va. She spent the next 54 years there where she raised her family. She was active in Bethany Baptist Church and later along with her husband, helped found Believer’s Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Va. Mrs. Grimes spent her life serving and loving others. She was loved by everyone who had the privilege to know her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Grimes and parents, Charles and Alice Belle Arnold; three sisters, Edith Barker, Alice Conner and Nell Grimes; and three brothers, “Gee” Arnold, Charles Allen Arnold and “Doc” Arnold; and special niece, Peggy Mercer.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Lloyd “Pete” Sheets of Glade Spring; grandsons, Jacob Sheets and girlfriend, Britt Cox of Bristol, Va. and Abe Sheets and fiancé Brittany VanDyke of Bristol, Va.; granddaughter, Annie Sheets of the home; special nieces, Jan Whitehurst and husband Tom of Glade Spring, Judith Hoback and husband Mike of Meadowview, Ellen Hammond and husband Bobby of Glade Spring and Marie Blankenship and husband Gerald of Glade Spring; special nephew, Jack Grimes of Glade Spring; sister-in-law, Eula Arnold of Glade Spring and many other beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three special people in her life, Inez Fletcher, Richard Wood and Lynn Farris.
The family wishes to thank her special caregiver, Charlotte Johnson and a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Wellmont Hospice for the tender and loving care they provided.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Washington Springs United Methodist Church, 36215 Washington Springs Rd., Glade Spring, Va. A funeral service will follow the visitation with Pastor Larry Lusk officiating. Interment will follow in the Baptist Cemetery at Glade Spring.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jacob and Abram Sheets and her great nephews, Nathan Whitehurst, Erich Baldwin, Matthew Arnold and Craig Hammond.
