Nickey Charles Sturgill, Sr.

Nickey Charles Sturgill, Sr., age 86, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Born on January 28, 1939, to the late Ulla Vinton and Mamie Ida Sturgill, Nick lived a life rooted in faith, service, and dedication to his community.

A proud United States Army Veteran, Nick served his country with honor before dedicating his life to serving others at home. A man who loved the open road, he found joy in driving his semi-truck and took great pride in his work.

He faithfully served with the Damascus Fire Department for 49 years and was a Charter Founding Member of the Damascus Rescue Squad. His selfless heart and commitment to helping others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Eva Sturgill; three brothers; and four sisters.

He is survived by his son, Nickey Sturgill; very special granddaughter, Ashley Johnson and husband Aaron; and two great-grandchildren, Jace and Reid Johnson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, especially his nieces Ann and Lisa who held a very special place in his heart.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. at Beulah Baptist Church, with Pastor Dwayne Dillard officiating.
