Nancy Gilliam Lambdin, affectionately known as Honey, died on August 3, 2018 at age 94.
She is survived by her sister Judith Cobb; children Mo Lambdin (Andrea), Nancy Schay (Mike), Jo Johnson (Dave) and Judy Roy (Jack); her grandchildren Rena Johnson (Matt Anderson), Justine Payne (Wes), Sara Johnson-Scalisi (John,) Kiara and Amy Franco; and by her great-grandchildren Sonny and Ada Payne.
As newlyweds, Honey and her husband, Dr. Morris Lambdin, were part of the American contingent that went to Europe in the immediate aftermath of World War II and helped in the post-war rebuilding effort.
She worked for many years in medical insurance, volunteering at her local library and performing other community services. She loved working in her yard and garden. Until very late in her life, Honey enjoyed long evening walks in the park behind her house. She attended her local church Wesley Chapel, which was within walking distance from her childhood home in Chuckatuck, Virginia. Seems like she was always cooking for someone or some benefit.
Honey was the rock for us children and taught us our love of life, cooking and how to be a good person. There were always kids coming and going in the house as we were growing up.
According to Honey’s spoken and written directions, her remains are to be cremated. Also, at Honey’s request, there will be no memorial service.
Honey was a supporter of the Greater Chuckatuck Historical Foundation and Native Americans of America and any donations in lieu of flowers should be directed there.
The family would like to express our gratitude to her caregivers Rebecca, Amanda, Molly and Lia for their compassionate and professional care during the last months of her life.
