Miles Ratliff Jr.

Miles Ratliff, Jr., age 89, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.


Miles was born July 8, 1934, in Grundy, VA to the late Miles Ratliff, Sr and Artie (Elswick) Ratliff. Miles was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked in the mining industry, he was a member of UMWA local #2232.


Following the example his wife led, Miles joined the Christian family many years ago and remained faithful, he was a member of the Painter Creek Church of Christ.


Preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Sloan, Nevelyn Ford, Inez Shortridge, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Ezra and Victoria Deel.


In his younger days he enjoyed hunting, boating, and skiing, he created many happy and memorable times for his family.  Later in life he enjoyed gardening and tinkering in his garage.


Miles was a hardworking and dedicated husband, father, and father-in-law.


Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Lavon Deel Ratliff, daughters Teresa (Alan) Lester of Grundy, VA, and Rhonda (Avery) Stollings of Abingdon, VA, and son Michael Ratliff of Marion, VA, granddaughter Jennifer Weller of Washington Courthouse, OH and grandson Craig (Megan) Stollings of Abingdon VA., great grandchildren Parker Stollings and Paxton Stollings of Abingdon, VA, and Alexandra Weller of Washington Courthouse, OH. and one sister Sandra (Ronnie) Clevinger of Harman, VA.


Special thanks to his very special caregiver Denyse Coram for the love and excellent care she provided over the past few months of his life. The family feels she was God sent, the care she provided was immeasurable.



Visitation will be Friday, April 5, 2024, at 11am followed by the funeral at 12pm at the Painter Creek Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Mountain View United Methodist Cemetery located on Rt 75 in Abingdon, VA.  


Active pallbearers will be Perry Baines, Travis Jessee, Alan Lester, Bob Nichols, Craig Stollings, and Parker Stollings.


Frost Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to serve the Ratliff family.
