Michael Thomas Mitchell

Bristol, Tennessee



Michael Thomas Mitchell, 75, died on Sunday January 1st, 2023 with his loving wife by his side at his home in Bristol, Tennessee.


He was born July 31, 1947 in Washington County, Virginia to the late Thomas Mitchell and Dorsey Gilley Mitchell.


Mike was a combat infantryman with the 1st Cavalry Division in the Vietnam War and was awarded multiple bronze stars, the air medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army commendation medal for heroism with “V” device along with other awards for his service to his country. After his service, he worked in construction, farmed and operated a sawmill. He also enjoyed time outdoors hunting and fishing and was a member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church.


In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by a sister, Jean Trent and her husband Roy.


He is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Linda Fogleman Mitchell, stepson Barry Dutton (Lynlee), sons Michael Mitchell and Cheyanne Mitchell, a brother, Larry Mitchell (Jill), sisters, Carol Wright, Mary Ellen Shepherd (Lonnie) and Kathy Henderson. He is also survived by sisters-in-law June Keesee and Lou Fowler, nieces Melinda Leonard (Ron) and Charity Fowler and nephew Ron Franklin as well as a number of other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his family, Mike is survived by special friends Lacey Cooke, Mike and Tammy Grady and Ron and Teresa Jarrett and their son Bill.


A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on January 5, 2023 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Claude Davis officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tunnel to Towers, and Cold Spring Presbyterian Church building fund.
