Michael Daniel Murrell-Fields

Michael Daniel (Mike, Danny) Murrell-Fields went to his final reward on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

Danny was born September 16, 1961, in Smyth County, VA to Edward and Dorothy Murrell and was a lifelong resident of Glade Springs, VA. Danny graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1979 and joined the US Army after high school where he served in Hanau, Germany, Ft. Hood, TX and Ft. Bragg, NC.  After getting discharged from the army, he attended Clinch Valley College in Wise, VA where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was employed by the Social Security Administration in Wise, VA until he retired. 

Danny was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Lucille Fields, grandmother Rosa Goins his parents, Edward and Dorothy Murrell, his sister, Shelby Murrell, uncles George D. Fields Jr & James Fields also his aunt Glenna Fields. 

Danny leaves many to mourn his passing. They include his foster mother and "best aunt in the world", Ruth Fields, his favorite sister, Kelley Murrell and his special niece, Tonya Davis. His survivors also include sisters Sylvia Haith, Francis Davis and Kathy Murrell and brother William Murrell. He also leaves behind his uncle, William Fields, aunt Mary Hall and a host of nieces, nephews and close cousins. In addition to his family, Danny also leaves his special friends Betty and Hunter Edmondson and his home companion Chrissy Cain to cherish his memory. 

Danny was a kind gentle giant with a heart of gold.  He was a delight to be around and will be greatly missed for his happy disposition, his laughter and his love for his family and friends. 

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia with Rev. William Reid officiating.
