Michael Allen Hooton, 71, of Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was surrounded by his entire family at the time of his passing.
He was born September 26, 1947, in Logansport, Indiana, and lived in this area for the past 39 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a dedicated member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as hospitality director. He was an avid softball and baseball fan and enjoyed umpiring for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Frederick Hooton; four grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Long.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Hooton of Bristol, Tenn.; nine children, Rachel Carr and husband, Rockie of Bristol, Tenn., John Hooton and wife, Candy of Hopkinsville, KY, James Hooton and wife, Amy of Bristol, Tenn., Hannah Hooton of Bristol, Tenn., Elizabeth Pauley and husband, Steven of Bristol, Tenn., Naomi Bickmore and husband, Jared of Glade Spring, Va., Joel Hooton of Bristol, Tenn., Jeremiah Hooton of Bristol, Tenn., and Jedidiah Hooton of Bristol, Tenn.; mother, Barbara Schidler; 22 grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Hooton of Logansport, Indiana.
Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m., on Friday, November 23, 2018, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Abingdon, Va. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., at the church with Pastor Bryan Treadway officiating. The committal service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, November 26, at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn. Those attending are asked to gather at the cemetery entrance at 9:45 a.m.
His sons John, James, Joel, Jeremiah, Jedidiah and Steve; his son-in-law, Rockie and grandson, Matthew will serve as pallbearers.
