Mary Louise Hudler, 92, passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Washington County, Virginia, to the late W. C. and Rosa Mitchell, Mary lived a life of love and devotion. Like her parents before her, Mary had a gentle soul, and was a role model of faith, hard work, and humility to all who were privileged enough to know her.
A gifted seamstress from an early age, Mary began sewing doll clothes. From there, she soon went on to create everything from twirling skirts for square dancers to elegant gowns for brides. She especially loved to sew for children.
Her passion for fabric and design led her to open The Fabric House in Abingdon, where she served countless customers who soon became cherished friends. Later in life, she spent two decades at Kegley and Company as a bespoke tailor alongside the late Duke Kegley, continuing to share her artistry with precision and pride.
Mary’s hands were rarely idle. When she wasn’t sewing or tailoring, she was quilting or cooking with love. Her creativity was matched only by her generosity; she gave freely of her time and talents to anyone in need.
A woman of deep faith, Mary was a devoted member of Scenic Park Church of the Nazarene in Bristol. Her love for her Lord and Savior was unwavering, and she shared that love by living a life according to His teachings.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Roy L. Hudler, Sr., her son Roy L. Hudler, Jr., seven sisters, and one brother. Her baby sister Laura Ann Roope, to whom she was so close, passed away on September 5, a loss she felt very deeply. She is survived by her loving daughter Linda H. Musick (Colbert). She is also survived by her beloved granddaughter Myra Hillis Teaters (Christopher) two cherished great-grandchildren, Jacqueline and Jillian, and several nieces and nephews. A multitude of others loved her and called her mom or Grandma because she was so dear to all.
Mary Louise Hudler touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity, humility, and extraordinary skill. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
The Family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Elite Hospice Team, most especially Nurse Sarah and CNA Cyntara who gave her such exceptional care.
