Mary Lou Combs, 82, went to meet her Lord and Savior on May 27, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of Denton’s Valley Baptist Church.
She was born August 11, 1940, to the late Fred and Florence Osborne of Smyth County, VA. Mary Lou was part of the first graduating, LPN class at the Washington County Neff Center and retired from nursing at Johnston Memorial Hospital after 32 years of service. She was proud to be one of the original nurses involved in the opening of the first critical care unit at JMH. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Quilting was her hobby and she loved to spend time in her “Ivory Tower” transforming her fabrics into fabulous quilts for the people she loved.
She was preceded in death by sister, Eva Wayve Osborne and brother, Ray Landon Osborne.
Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, Paul L. Combs; son, Paul (Lyn) Combs, Jr. (Judy); daughters, Lisa Dolinger (Andrew), Carol Arnold (Dennis), Laura Murray (Todd); grandchildren, Amy Smith (Jeff), Carrie Potter (Alex), Allen Arnold (Lana), Matthew Arnold (Kristie), Ashley Combs, Michael Combs (Savannah), Dustin Murray (Madison), Sarah Murray; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Ronnie Osborne; many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Stevens and Reverend Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon.
Allen Arnold, Dustin Murray, Jeff Smith, Matt Arnold, Alex Potter, and Steve Kyle will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Denton’s Valley Baptist Church.
