Marjorie D. Mullins

Marjorie Daugherty Mullins, age 93, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

Born in Scott County, Va. on April 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Wilson J. and Lillie Smith Dougherty.

She was a graduate of Midway High School, Lincoln Memorial University, and attended the University of Tennessee. She served as a librarian for 50 years at college, churches and schools. In 1944-1945, she taught school in Washington County, Va. She worked at the World War II Bond Booth, Dominion National Bank, Bristol, Va. 1945-46.

On August 21, 1946, she was married to Bert C. Mullins at Calvary Baptist Church, Bristol, Tenn. She was a charter member and librarian of Cumberland Baptist Church, Knoxville, Tenn. She was a teacher and elementary school librarian in the Knoxville, Tenn. school system for 25 years. Retired from teaching in 1986, she moved to Abingdon, Va. and was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church where she was librarian and member of Shalom Circle and Friendship Class. She was also a member of Booklovers Club in Abingdon, Va.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bert C. Mullins, her parents, Wilson J. and Lillie Smith Dougherty, infant daughter, Judith Kay, sister, Ruth D. Keith and brothers, Gene and James Merle Dougherty and Rev. Herbert H. Daugherty.

She is survived by her five children: Roger and Jenny Mullins, Knoxville, Tenn., David and Pamela Mullins, Matthews, NC, Melanie M. Majors, Whitley City, KY, Cliff and Joy Mullins, Columbus, GA and Jay and Cheryl Mullins, Bloomingdale, GA. Fifteen grandchildren are Casey Mullins, Corey Mullins, Katelyn Mullins, Jamie Spencer, Megan Majors, Hope Fortenberry, Camille Masi, Luke Mullins, Jacob Mullins, Grace Ward, Anna Mullins, Jaron Mullins, Wesley Mullins, Matthew Mullins, Mitchell Mullins, and four step grandchildren: Joe Greene, Shannon Greene, Christy Ballard and Eric Greene. Great grandchildren are: Grady Mullins, Tate Mullins, Levi Mullins, Jaden Spencer, Myles Masten, Ayva Exposito, Amelia Masi, Clara Masi, and step great grandchildren: Mason Pruden, Abby Pruden, Savannah Greene, Tyler Greene, Skylar Greene, Megan Greene, Evan Greene. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Abingdon Baptist Church on Saturday, January 5, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with memorial services following at 12:30 p.m. Reverend Dr. William Bryan and Mr. Richard Foil will be officiating.

Interment will be at the Monte Vista Memorial Gardens, 1900 E. Oakland Ave., Johnson City, Tenn. at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 Main St, Abingdon, Va. 24210 or to the Don L. Bradley DDM Home, 19477 Rustic Lane, Abingdon, Va. 24210.
