Marie Elswick, 81, of Abingdon, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 12, 2025, at Duke University Hospital.
Marie was born on October 5, 1943, in Dickenson County, VA to Fannie Deel Dotson.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked as a housekeeper until her daughter went to school. At that time, she started working in the cafeteria at Vansant Elementary School. She then worked for Food City in Grundy, VA until she retired. After her retirement, she babysat for her two grandsons. She attended Pilgram Baptist Church.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Bill and Fannie Dotson; her sisters Sharon Kay; Catherine "Cat" Boyd.
She is survived by her husband Don of 65 years; one son Jessie Elswick and wife Nelma of Vansant, VA; one daughter, Elizabeth Maddox and husband Ritchie of Abingdon, VA; four grandchildren Channing Elswick of Grundy, VA; Nicholas Maddox of Bristol, VA; Lexie Vandall husband Tyler of Pipestem, WV; Stephanie Hill husband Thomas of Meadowview, VA.; two great grandson's Elijah Hill and Owen Vandall; four sisters Mildred "Millie" Woods husband Merelin of South Haven, MI; Charlene Lockhart husband James of Sevierville, TN; Wanda Yates of Vansant, VA; and Rita Owens husband Johnny of Harmony, NC; two brothers Leon Dotson of Whitehouse, OH; Buford Dotson wife Julie of Murray, KY.
The family wishes to extend special gratitude to the caring and compassionate staff at Duke University Hospital - wing 4300. Dr. William "Mark" Handy.
Visitation for Marie will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home Chapel in Abingdon, VA. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Ketron officiating. Committal to follow at 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 17, 2025, at Greenhills Memory Garden in Claypool Hill, VA.
Marie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
