Mabel S. Dickey Widener

Updated: Sep 9, 2024

On Wednesday, Sept 4, 2024, our dearest mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister was carried gently into Jesus’ arms; her last and heavenly home. She was 88 years old. Mabel was the oldest of 17 children.

Mabel devoted her life to serving the Lord and sharing the gospel. She volunteered at the Damascus Rescue Squad and spent years as an in-home caretaker for the elderly where her patients were more like friends. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with family, walking the Creeper trail, fishing, gardening, quilting and swimming in the lake at Painter Creek where she lived for the last 20 years surrounded by family. Much like her personality, Mabel enjoyed anything sweet, and ice cream was sure to always put a smile on her face. Mabel had a sincere kindness for everyone and a loving heart. Her sweet voice was often heard humming her favorite gospel hymns. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.

Preceded in death by her parents, Jackson and Kentucky Stiltner, brothers James Stiltner, Ray Stiltner, Ervin Stiltner, Kermit Stiltner and sister Christine Chick. She was also preceded in death by husband Franklin Dickey and first-born daughter Elizabeth.

She is survived by 6 children; William Dickey (caretaker), Angie Counts (Rocky), Patty Lester (Johnny), David Dickey (Maranda), Chris Dickey (Andrea) and Chad Dickey (Hope). 12 surviving siblings, 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 09, 2024 at Frost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 09, 2024 at Greenhills Memory Gardens 11800 Gov. C Peery Highway Claypool Hill, Va 24609. Those wishing to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:45 P.M. Her brother, Daniel Stiltner will officiate the service and burial and vocalist Caitlyn Lester.

Pallbearers; Braden Dickey, Shane Lester, Josh Debusk, Jesse Dickey, Joey Lester, Jason Stiltner and Jonathan Brown.

Mabel was blessed with many special friends. The family would like to particularly thank Renee Stiltner, Sabrina Brown and Melanie Brown for their constant love and support for Mabel, always lending a hand whenever needed and loving her unconditionally.
