Mabel L. Sweet Milhorne

Mabel L. Sweet Milhorne, age 99, of Damascus, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia. She was born on December 4, 1923 to the late John and Buna Sweet.


She was a former employee of Blue Ridge Shoe and Burlington of Mountain City, Tennessee. She loved spending time with her family and going to church. She was a faithful Member of Beulah Baptist Church of Meadowview, Virginia. She loved to crochet, and one of her favorite things was being a part of the ladies’ group from her church who crochets scarves and hats for the homeless shelter in the area. At last count she had crocheted well over 400 scarves and hats that she proudly donated to those in need or just for friends that dropped by for a visit. She also loved her golf cart rides on country roads and trails.


Mabel was proceeded in death by her parents, John and Buna Sweet; her husband, Robert Charles Milhorne; her daughter, Virginia Lowe and her husband Earnest Lowe; son-in-law, Ronald Deel; and three brothers, Robert Sweet, Charles Sweet and James Sweet.


Mabel is survived by two daughters, Brenda Deel and Robin Perkey (husband, Frank); three sons, Joe Milhorne (wife, Charlene), Mike Milhorne (wife, Wylene) and Mack Milhorne; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and thirteen great-great grandchildren.


A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023 3:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at Beulah Baptist Church in Meadowview, Virginia with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 P.M., officiated by Brother Dwayne Dillard and Brother Anthony Milhorne. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia.


Pallbearers will be Craig Milhorne, Josh Milhorne, John Milhorne, Mark Lowe, Ronnie Deel and Joe Deel. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Arnold, Mike Harmon, Harold Wilcox, Graham Sweet and Mike Doss.


The Milhorne family would like to say a very special thank you to Caris Healthcare and Hospice for the wonderful care that Mamaw Milhorne received during her illness.
