Mabel Barker Jarvis

Mabel Barker Jarvis, age 89, of Bristol, TN, passed away under hospice care peacefully at home on Thursday, October 30, 2025, and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

She was born in Abingdon, VA on December 19, 1935, daughter of Guy and Ora Kate Barker. Mabel was a devoted member of Volunteer Baptist Church. She was a strong independent lady who enjoyed work in her flowers, tending to many cats, and kept her mind sharp working numerous crossword puzzles. Mabel thoroughly enjoyed her entire working career in healthcare at Johnston Memorial Hospital and Abingdon Radiology.

 Mabel was preceded in death by her husband James Jarvis. Survivors include her son John Barker and wife, Christie of Bristol, TN, loving grandchildren, Carson, Callie, and Jacob. She also was proceeded in death by her sister, Margie Barker Matthews Redding; six brothers, Garnett Barker, Luther Barker, Roy Barker, Fred Barker, Howard Barker Sr. and Sam Barker.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Frost Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 8, 2025. A service will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Tony French and Rev Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia.

The family would like to thank the nurses; Tori, Madison, Tammy, and Dashea and staff with Amedisys Hospice of Kingsport and Dr. John Green.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donation in Mabel’s honor to be made to the American Humane Society or local animal shelter.
