Lynda Zane Bailey

Lynda Zane Bailey, born on July 20, 1942, in Chamblee, GA, peacefully passed away on September 14, 2023, at the age of 81 in Abingdon, Virginia. She was surrounded by her loving family in her final moments.


Lynda was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. She will be remembered for her kind and compassionate nature, as well as her unwavering faith. Lynda's love for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. She found joy in spending time with her family and cherished every moment she had with them. Lynda was a people person and took great pleasure in leading others to Christ.


In her spare time, Lynda enjoyed various hobbies, including cooking, gardening, and solving puzzles. She was also actively involved in her community, where she taught Ladies Bible Class and Sunday School to teens and pre-teens. Lynda's dedication to sharing her faith and guiding others was truly inspiring.


Lynda pursued her passion for interior design and decorating, which spanned over five decades. She was a talented professional who honed her skills at the New York School of Interior Design. Lynda was a member of the Interior Design Society and specialized in designing and sewing window treatments. Her creativity and attention to detail brought beauty and warmth to countless homes.


Lynda's faith played a central role in her life, and she worshipped at the East Bristol Church of Christ in Bristol, VA. Her strong belief in God was evident in the way she lived her life and treated others.


When the time comes, Lynda's ashes will be scattered alongside her husband's in the Appalachian Mountains, fulfilling their shared wish. The family has been assisted by Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, VA, during this difficult time. Special thanks to the loving care given to her by the nurses and staff at the Abingdon Health and Rehab Center during her final days.


Lynda is preceded in death by her parents, Neal Lowery Harper and Sallie Mae Morris Harper. She is survived by her beloved husband, Merritt Floyd Bailey, Sr., and their children: Kathy Zane Bailey Holland (Don), Merritt Floyd Bailey, Jr. (Elizabeth), and Regina Darlene Bailey Jackson (Hal). Lynda also leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Nathanael Lee Holland (Umoyo), Josiah Lee Holland (Larissa), Merritt Floyd Bailey III (Katherine), Jessie Elizabeth Bailey Kachelman (Adam), Logan Neal Bailey (Janica), Spencer Reid Bailey (Hannah), Savanna Grace Jackson Westjohn (Austin), William Timothy Jackson, and James Hunter Jackson. Additionally, Lynda loved her great-grandchildren: Anna Taonga Holland, Phoebe Temwani Holland, Victor Lee Holland, Miles Xavier Holland, Maverick Emerson Bailey, Moxie Elizabeth Bailey, Beau William Bailey, Beatrice Suzette Bailey, Emily Bailey Kachelman, Elizabeth Saylor Kachelman, Miles Paden Kachelman, and Baby Boy Bailey (Logan & Janica's unborn). She is also survived by her siblings, Thomas Neal Harper (Carolyn) and Ellen Sara Harper Helm, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.


Lynda Zane Bailey will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kind-heartedness, love for her family, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered and cherished.


Services for Lynda will be held at a later date.
