On Saturday, November 24, 2018, Loretta McClure Cooper, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away at the age of 77.
Loretta was born on December 31,1940 in Harmon, VA to James Millard and Hettie Mae (Lester) McClure. Loretta was a 1958 graduate of Chilhowie High School where she was a cheerleader. On July 20, 1961, she married James William Cooper. Together they shared three children, Todd, Whitney and Scott.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Whitney McClure Cooper. Loretta is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim; son, Todd McClure Cooper Sr and his wife, Carren, Bristol, VA; son, Scott McClure Cooper and his wife, Jocelyne, Los Angeles, CA. Loretta is survived by her sister, Betsy Rash (Roy) and brothers, Edwin McClure (Lee), James McClure, Larry McClure (Ginny), Jerry McClure (Sue), Teddy McClure (Sarah), Michael McClure (Kevin) and Gerald McClure. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Will Cooper (Maeghan), Todd Cooper Jr (Amanda), Ava Cooper, Stella Cooper, Chad Cathell (Paige), McKinsey Venable (David) and Chase Cathell, and by 6 great grandchildren, Peyton Cooper, Lyliah Cooper, Frankie Cooper, Bradley Roberts-Cathell, Carter Venable and Bailey Venable along with many special nieces and nephews.
Loretta will long be remembered for her great love of family and friends. Loretta and Jim enjoyed so much to entertain, listen to music and dance together. For many years, Loretta attended annual horse shows in Washington DC with her dear friends, Jane Glover and Bobby Sue Warren. Loretta also enjoyed travel adventures with her best friend and cousin, Pat Stallard.
A graveside service is planned for Saturday, December 8, 2018, 11 o’clock am at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Chilhowie, VA, followed by a reception to celebrate Loretta’s life at Riverfront Restaurant, Chilhowie, VA.
Thank you to all the caregivers who helped Loretta during her last few days with us especially Dr. Lindsay Davies and the CCU staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. Thank you to Dr. Emory Robinette for many years of care and also special friend, Cathy Lowe for her special friendship and care.
