Lorene Davenport McCray

Lorene Davenport McCray left this earthly home for her heavenly home on October 26, 2025, in Saltville, Virginia. She was a faithful and devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Born on May 13,1931 to Moody Davenport and Bessie Counts Davenport.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph McCray; her granddaughter, Melody Eskridge; her three sisters Nellie Morris, Dorothy Malone, Phyllis Browning; her twin sister Christine Henderson; and her two brothers Tommy Davenport, and Edmond Davenport.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janice Eldreth (Bobby); her son, Michael McCray; five grandchildren Tamara Hicks (Wayne), Teresa Cook (Junie), Nathan Eldreth (Alison), Brennan McCray (Kristy); four great grandchildren MJ Eskridge, Erin Eskridge, Cash McCray, and Declan Eldreth; one brother Kenneth Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of MSA hospice care. Especially the caring, and wonderful nurses, Chloe, Jennifer, Molly and Carlee.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M. with Robert Crusenberry officiating. Interment will follow in procession to Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in Meadowview, Virginia.

Pallbearers will include Brennan McCray, Nathan Eldreth, Wayne Hicks, Junie Cook, Caleb Browning, MJ Eskridge Richard Morris, and Eddie Henderson.

Honorary pallbearers will include Kenneth Morris, David Browning, Kenny Davenport, Kelvin Davenport, Darrell Davenport, and Allen Malone.
