Lillian “Joyce” Hayden, age 61, of Abingdon, Va., passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 28, 2018.
Joyce was of the Christian faith and a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church. Joyce enjoyed watching Nascar racing and had a great love for all animals.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, William Epperson Atkins; her husband, James Christopher “Chris” Hayden; and a brother, William Michael Atkins.
Joyce is survived by her mother, Ruth “Polly” Atkins of Abingdon, Va.; sisters, Vivian Freeman and husband Jerry of Chilhowie, Va., Bea Rosenbaum of Abingdon, Va., Peggy Whitehead and husband Scott of Abingdon, Va.; and brother, Johnny Atkins and wife Regina of Meadowview, Va. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the special caregivers for the wonderful care that she has received during her time of illness. The staff of Johnston Memorial Hospital, the staff of Caris Healthcare, Carol Wilson FNP and nurse Angie, Dr. Kyi and nurse Donna, and special caregivers Bea Rosenbaum (sister), Michele Lewis (niece) and Tyler Lewis (great nephew).
In lieu of flowers the family ask that you make a donation in her loving memory to a charity of your choice or a donation to any animal shelter.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Green Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Minister Ron Musick officiating. Family and friends will gather at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m.
