Laura Ann Roope

Laura Ann Roope, age 89, of the Wyndale Community of Abingdon, Virginia passed from her earthly home into the arms of her loving Savior on September 5, 2025.

Born to William C. and Rosa Rust Mitchell, Ann was the youngest of nine children. Sisters who predeceased her were Verna Puckett, Ruby Freeman, Dorothy Owens Campbell McAllister, Leta Puckett, Blanche Kinsley, and Willie Hudler. Only one sister remains, Mary Hudler of Bristol Virginia. Their only brother, William C. Mitchell, Jr., is also deceased.

Ann retired from Winks Uniform Center after many years of commitment and hard work. She very much enjoyed helping doctors, nurses, fire department members and all first responders with their uniform needs. She was also a treasured member of the Scenic Park Church Of The Nazarene in Bristol, Virginia. Ann was very active in the VFW and DAV Auxiliaries. If there was a poppy sale, Ann was there to help raise needed funds.

Ann was predeceased by her husband, Clyde L. Roope with whom she traveled the

globe in more than 26 years as he served in the US Air Force; son, William Robert

Roope, and grandson, Jason Taylor.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, David M Roope of the home, her daughter In law,

Bonnie Roope of Johnson City, Tennessee and Grandchildren: William R. “Billy” Roope

Jr. of Abingdon, Virginia, Holly Roope of North Carolina, Rebecca Blevins of

Bristol,Tennessee, Melissa Arrowwood of Elizabethton, Tennessee, Daniel Pennington,

and Bradley Simon of Bristol, Tennessee,13 great-grandchildren and 4 great great

grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be mailed for the upkeep of the

Rust Cemetery @ 16572 Rust Hollow Rd. Abingdon, VA 24210.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 9th at 2pm at Rust Cemetery in

Abingdon, Virginia with Pastor Jerry Eggers officiating.
