Larkin E. Owens, Jr., 74, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at his home.
He was born April 12, 1944, in Washington County, Va., to the late Larkin E. Owens, Sr. and Martha Trent Owens. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two sons, Mike Owens and Larkin Owens III; five sisters, Betty Arnold, Peggy Ault, Hazel Poole, Mary Wine and Ellen Hines and one brother, Marvin Owens.
Junior had lived in the Washington County area most of his life. He co-owned Owens Mobile Home Service for over 40 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren and extended family.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Owens of the home; one son, John Owens (Holly) of Bland, Va.; six grandchildren, Cory Owens, Ben Owens (Victoria), Katie Owens, Chloe Owens, Lexie Owens and Jessi Owens; one great granddaughter, Haylee Owens; three brothers, Ed Owens, Roger Owens (Judy) and Joe Owens (Terri); numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Johnston Memorial Cancer Center and staff, especially Dr. T. Mark Davis and Dr. Cathy Hopkins, and Home Nursing Service & Hospice for the care shown during his illness.
Visitation will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m., on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., in the chapel with Mr. Walt Staude officiating. Interment will follow the service in Mock Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
