Kennith “Ken” Nolan Epling

Kennith “Ken” Nolan Epling, 72, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at his home.


Ken was born on June 19, 1950, in Breaks, Va., to the late Claude Epling and Margarette Hay Epling. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Patsy McBride and Georgia Epling; and one brother, Jesse Epling.


Ken loved being a resident of Abingdon, Va. After graduating Virginia Tech, he began his career as a distributive education teacher at Abingdon High School. He later became a real estate agent which was a job he deeply loved. Ken had served as an agent with Meade Realty in Abingdon, Va., since 1991. He was a former president of the Virginia Real Estate Board. He was an avid gardener and lifelong show horse lover. Ken made his home on South Holston Lake and loved spending time there.


Survivors include his partner, Walter Wright; two children, Brannon Kent Epling and Anna Epling Cisco (David); four grandchildren, Charlie, Nolan, Benjamin and Miles; one brother, Bill Epling (Robin); the mother of his children, Susan Barrow Humphreys; and several nieces and nephews.


Memorial service scheduled for Thursday, August 11, 2022 has been postponed to a later date.
