Kenneth Edward Smeltzer

Bristol, Tennessee


Kenneth Edward Smeltzer, 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.


Kenneth was born on March 21, 1930, to the late Robert and Gaynell Smeltzer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Robert “Bobby” Smeltzer, Jim Smeltzer and Alvin Smeltzer.


Kenneth was a truck driver, logger, crop sprayer and farmer most of his life. Farming was his passion. Working the land, raising cattle and putting up hay were some of his happiest times with his daughters by his side. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hiking, hunting, swimming, and tractor pulling. He was a local celebrity in the tractor pulling community where he would often go from the field to a tractor pulling competition where he would often win.  More than anything, he cherished time spent with his family especially his grandchildren.


Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Sylvia Berry Smeltzer; two daughters, Michele Pennings and her husband Simon, Darlene Becker and her husband Keith; four grandchildren, Mark Wright and wife Jenna, Wendy Becker, Amy Alvis and husband Aaron, and Andy Becker; two great grandchildren, Will and Alex Wright; one brother, Doug Smeltzer and wife Barbara; and many nieces, nephews, special friends and extended family.


Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 P.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Cleveland Presbyterian Church. A service will follow at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Tom Musselman and Pastor Rick Laney officiating. A committal service will follow in the Cleveland Presbyterian Church Cemetery


Serving as pallbearers will be, Mark Wright, Andy Becker, Keith Becker, Aaron Alvis, Dale Smeltzer, and Simon Pennings.
