Kathryn "Kathy" Elaine Icenhour

Kathryn "Kathy" Elaine Icenhour transitioned from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Monday, April 1, 2024. She was born February 3, 1954 in Kingsport, Tennessee, to the late George Franklin Icenhour and Marjorie Othella Morley Icenhour.

A woman of strong faith, Kathy loved God with all her heart. She was a gentle soul who was also fiercely loyal to her family and friends and the political causes she believed in. In addition to her early life in Shady Valley, Tennessee, Kathy lived a major portion of her life in Charlottesville, Virginia, before moving to Abingdon, Virginia. She took great interest in the government of Charlottesville and was often in attendance at the Charlottesville City Council meetings where she gained a reputation for standing up and speaking her mind concerning the issues at hand. Kathy also served as a board member of the Charlottesville Department of Social Services Advisory Board. She did volunteer work at Love, INC (In the Name of Christ), where she met and served with Rebecca Batton, who became a dear and loyal friend to Kathy throughout the remainder of her life.

Kathy could often be found working crossword puzzles, an obsession she admitted to in some exasperation but nevertheless continued. She loved flowers, especially the Peace roses in her Mother's flower garden, and the many color varieties of Shasta daisies. Dancing was of particular interest to Kathy in her early years before the many physical challenges she faced each and every day began to relentlessly take their toll. A loving soul, she adopted the motto "Keep Smiling," which she often repeated to all her acquaintances. Kathy loved writing cards and letters of encouragement to everyone.

Survivors for Kathy include her sister, Patricia Jane "Janie" Icenhour Dunn and brother-in-law, Donald Barry Dunn, and many cousins. Her family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the Rehab Center and Memory Care at Bristol for the care Kathy received during the last days of her life.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 3:00 P.M. at Shady Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Bill Bryan officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 2:45 P.M.

Flowers for Kathy are appreciated or donations to Love INC in Charlottsville, Virginia or a charity of your choice.

Frost Funeral Home and Cremation Services is honored to be serving the family of Ms. Icenhour.
