John Rand Shupe,“Randy”, as most of his friends called him, passed away Friday, August 26, 2022 at his residence.
He was born January 27, 1951 in Bluefield, West Virginia to the late Joyce E. McCloud and John W. Shupe, Jr. of Pocahontas, VA.
After several moves the family settled in Walterboro, SC in 1954 and then moved to Abingdon, VA in 1966. After graduation in 1969 he enlisted in the US Navy for four years.
Randy joined Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance Company in 1973 and within a year was promoted to the youngest ever sales manager with the company. That launched his 49 year career representing numerous insurance companies. The last company he represented was Settlers Life, where he was one of the top sales agents for more than 10 years.
Randy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Helen Calfee Hilton Shupe and son, Jonathan C. Shupe; brother, Rick Shupe and wife Vickie and daughter Makenzie of Flower Mound, TX, many relatives and a host of friends. The family would like to thank his Vanderbilt University Medical Center doctors especially, Dr. Aaron W. Aday.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 with a Memorial Service following at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Luther Roberts officiating in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to a charity of your choice.
