Abingdon, Virginia Mr. John James Deadmore, Jr., 94, passed away peacefully Monday, January 9, 2023 at his home in Abingdon, Virginia. Mr. Deadmore was born April 22, 1928 in Washington County, Virginia to the late John J. Deadmore, Sr. and Dora M. Gose Deadmore. After graduating from Emory & Henry College in 1950, John left the area for work in retail management with the S.H. Kress Company which took him to several areas of the country. He and his wife Phyllis returned to Abingdon in 1991. John was a member of the Abingdon Civitan Club, the Kiwanis Club, the McCabe Lodge IOOF. John was devout in his Christian faith and a long-time member of Abingdon United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by two brothers, Llewellyn C. Deadmore and Thomas M. Deadmore. Left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Phyllis L. Deadmore; one son, James A. (Debbie) Deadmore of Emory, Virginia; two daughters, Gloria D. (Michael) Vento of Front Royal, Virginia, and Elizabeth (Gary) Mix of Abingdon, Virginia; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 4 nieces, 1 nephew, and many friends also survive. The family will receive friends Friday, January 13, 2023 from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Abingdon United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at the church at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Paul Seay and Reverend Glenn Patterson officiating. Interment will be private at Knollkreg Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s honor to Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 E. Main Street, Abingdon, Virginia, 24210.
