John David (J.D.) Campbell

Abingdon, VA – John David (J.D.) Campbell, age 75, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.
Born January 23, 1946, in Meadowview, Virginia he was the son of Dan and Lillian McCracken Campbell. John served his country honorably in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam era. He was a proud American, who cherished his family and country. John lived most of his adult life in Richmond, Virginia, where he retired from the Nabisco Company after 40+ years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
John enjoyed traveling, sports, NASCAR races, hunting, spending time with his family, and the Virginia State Fair. He will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debbie Smarr Campbell, his sister, Mary Elizabeth Campbell Henderson, his fur babies, Boogie and Kitty, one niece and many nephews, all who fondly referred to him as “Uncle Buck.” Also surviving are Melissa Sequete, and husband Randy, Robert Folino, and grandchildren Alexander, Evan, and Camela.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased in death by three sisters, Betty Virginia Campbell McNew, and her husband Lee, JoAnn Campbell, Bertha Mae Campbell Jessee, and her husband Roy, brother in law Jack Lane Henderson, nieces Janice Henderson Agnew, Karen McNew Hess, Lisa Ann Campbell, and nephew Verlan Dean McNew.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Friday, August 27, 2021 at Frost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted following the visitation at 2:00 P.M. at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN. with Pastor Leonard Tenney officiating.
The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful, compassionate care provided by the Emergency Room staff and the staff of the ICU department at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Flowers are appreciated, however, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
