Jesse Shane Powers

Updated: Oct 6, 2025

Jesse Shane Powers, age 44 of Bristol, TN, was called home on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, finding eternal rest as he slept, in the comfort of his home.

He was born December 27, 1980, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. Shane moved back to Haysi, VA during his junior year of high school where he excelled at his favorite sports football and baseball. By the end of his senior year, he was voted "Mr. Attitude" by his classmates. If you knew him, you know that was very fitting to who he was.

After high school, Shane worked for a gas company until becoming a Corrections Officer for the Virginia Department of Corrections at Red Onion State Prison in Pound, VA.

Before working at the prison, Shane met Kimberly Owens, with whom he shared three beautiful daughters. Anyone who knew Shane knew he was a tough man with a big heart - sometimes hard to read, but never hard to love. Behind the gruffness was a dad who loved deeply and showed it in his own way. His girls were his pride and joy, and there was nothing he wouldn't do for them.

For the rest of his life, he remained faithful to God, and also to the Chicago Cubs, Washington Redskins, and Virginia Cavaliers. He was truly one of a kind and a loving son, brother, father, uncle, and dear friend. He will be gratefully missed, forever in our hearts, until we meet again.

Shane was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Rufus "Pap" Musick and Eunice Musick, and grandparents Jack Jesse Powers, Bernice Powers, and Jackie Lee Owens.

Those left to cherish his memories include his grandmother Wanda Owens, his parents Jesse Keith Powers, Katrina Carol Peace and her husband Mike, his sister Ashley Jade Winkler, his daughters Laci Jade Powers, Alexis Raelyn Powers, and Rylee Camille Powers, his nieces Bella Jade Osborne and Kerri Jessa Winkler, and many other family and friends.

The graveside service will be officiated by Denver Winebarger and held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025, at Forest Hills Memorial Garden in Abingdon, VA. All family and friends are welcome.

Joel Rasnick, Craig Boyd, Corey Jordan, Joey Yates, Brad Hill, and Steven Bartley will serve as pallbearers.

Frost Funeral Home & Cremation Services is honored to serve the family of Mr. Powers.
