Jerry Lee Shortridge, 73, born in 1948 in Buchanan County. He moved to Washington County in 1991 then to Smyth County in 1993 where he lived the rest of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Alma Shortridge; one sister, Mildred Matney; two brothers, Rodney and Paul Shortridge; two nephews, Michael Street and Steven Matney.
Jerry was a retired coal miner and a loving husband and uncle. He was a foster parent to seven foster children. He loved gardening and working in the yard.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 38 years and 11 months, Sharon Shortridge; three sisters, Maretta Lane and Husband Joe, Linda Rife, and Brenda Ward; one brother, John Ellis Shortridge, Jr. and wife Debbie; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include Doug Louthian, John Paul Shortridge, Josh Shortridge, Matthew Croson, Chandler McCammon, Branden Shortridge, Jimmy Miller, and Jason Shortridge. Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Shortridge, Bob Fletcher, Paul Dollar, Joe Mitchell, Preston Smith, and Ronnie Blankenship.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Frost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Melvin Penland and Pastor Robert Osborne officiating. A committal service will follow at the Riverside Community Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home.
