Jarrod Bruce Chafin

Updated: Apr 17

Abingdon, Virginia

Jarrod Bruce Chafin, age 34, was born on July 21st, 1989, and passed away on Sunday, April 14th, 2024.  Jarrod was born in Russell County, Virginia, to Doug and Sandy Chafin.  He leaves behind his wife Kimberly Rutherford Chafin, to cherish his love and memory.

Jarrod lived a very full and adventurous life. To know Jarrod was to love Jarrod. He was of the Christian faith.  He was blessed with three children that were his pride and joy.   He was "Piggy" to the oldest, Maggie Elise.  He and Kim were blessed with twins, Hudson Bruce and Isla Kate.  Hudson will forever be "Daddy's Ole Bud" and Isla "Dada's Baby."  Jarrod's children were his entire identity. The sun rose and set in them.

Also left to cherish his memory: brother Brett Chafin and wife Maggie and twin sister Jillian Anderson and husband Cody.  He had a special place in his heart for extended family: in-laws Wayne and Lola Rutherford, sister-in-law Nicole Wimmer and husband Eric, brothers-in-law Greg Rutherford and wife Sherry, Justin Crosswhite and fiancé Madison Campbell, Harold Crosswhite (Robin), Stanley Crosswhite (Sheena) and many loving nieces and nephews.

Jarrod was preceded in death by his grandparents Bernard and Gaye Chafin and Dame and Brown Gibson.

Jarrod was a very well-known and a highly respected Construction Inspector.  He began his career as an Inspector Trainee at a very young age and moved up very quickly to the youngest Senior Inspector in the area.   He took pride in his work and was fascinated by bridges and infrastructure.

Jarrod had a love and passion for youth sports in Southwest Virginia.  He ran the Jr. Cavs Basketball Program for many years.   He began with one small team of boys and very quickly developed an entire league.  He could also be found coaching flag football, officiating, as well as coaching T-ball and Little League.  He believed the future was bright for these young athletes.

Funeral services for Jarrod will be held at Highlands Fellowship Church - Abingdon Campus, on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024.  Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service.   Pastors David Matlock, David Griffin, and Roger Carter will be officiating.   Burial will be Thursday, April 18th, 2024, at Potter's Cemetery, 2370 Denton Valley Road, Bristol, Tennessee, 37620. Please meet at the cemetery at 11:00 A.M.

Jarrod had more friends than he even realized. Pallbearers will be Daniel Fritz, Shane Hall, Wesley Ball, Richard Woodard, Paul Baker, Jimmy Copley, Jessee Moretz, and Jared Sauls. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of the youth that Jarrod has mentored in sports. The family encourages you to wear your jersey to honor him.
